My name is Telia. I am a cheap lazy mom.
I am being honest but don't let this fool you. I love my children very much and want them to have fun this summer. Too many times do we as parents resort to video games, TV, or 'go find something to do, I'm busy,' when our children are looking for an activity. With a 6 year old (going on 7), a 10 month old, an adopted dog who needs lots of training and loving attention, and a husband who is still disabled after having reconstructive surgery on both feet, it has become hard for me to take care of everyone's needs. Including my own.
I find myself letting my 6 year old find activities by himself, letting the house fall into messy disarray, and going slightly crazy with a lack of direction for the family. I find myself throwing on yoga pants and a T shirt, no make up, and a sloppy bun; then wonder why I feel frumpy all the time. I will spend as little time cooking as possible, even if it's not the best for us.
I want more for my family than just getting through the days, weeks, or months. I want to recreate the structure we once had here. I want to create and environment of learning and love. I want to not wear yoga pants all the time and feel frumpy. I want to find fun, easy, and affordable things to do with my children. I also want to eat healthier.
Anyone ever feel the same?
I have decided to challenge myself to do something about it.
My challenge for this summer break is this:
- Find an activity a day to do, make, or cook with my children everyday
- Have it cost less than $5 (Even the foods, though depending on the market might be difficult)
- Find things that are easy to accomplish in the day with little prep time
- Learn as much as possible
- Get my family on a better schedule
- Cook healthier
- Make an effort to be less frumpy
- Get the community involved
I invite you to join me on this adventure in self exploration, family, and community.
